Ever been around someone that is just negative all the time? They think negative, speak negative and they end up depressing everyone else around them.
It’s pretty annoying isn’t it?
These folks talk about how terrible their job is, how bad their marriage is and how their life sucks.
It’s not only annoying, but life draining.
Hopefully this person isn’t you, but if it is you just have to count your blessings instead of counting everything bad that is going on in life.
Please don’t tell me who those people are, even if it is you. But, now think about people who you hang around that speak positive things all the time. Your time with them is probably much different.
You most likely encourage one another, give life to each person’s huge dreams and think along the same way.
Time with each other is productive and uplifting.
One of my favorite easy read books is The 4:8 Principle by Tommy Newberry.
It’s based on Philippians 4:8 which says:
Finally, brethren,
whatever things are true,
whatever things are noble,
whatever things are just,
whatever things are pure,
whatever things are lovely,
whatever things are of good report,
if there is any virtue and
if there is anything praiseworthy—
Meditate on these things.
Let’s start now. What’s one thing you’ve been blessed with. Trust me, there’s something.

I know EXACTLY what you’re talking about. Thank you for the reminder to be positive and not be a negative energy drain on the people around me.nnI’m grateful for being blessed with health (knock on wood). I haven’t been to the doctor in years and despite a pretty hectic schedule, work/school stress, and juggling time with the family I feel pretty good. Maybe it’s all the coffee… :)nnGreat stuff!

Blessings abound and choosing one is impossible. Perhaps the greatest to me is the knowledge that God is present in all creation, whether it be the budding trees, the smiles of my children, the cardinals that fly about my back yard – yet, most of all, it’s knowing with absolute certainty that God loves me! That blessing is what keeps me positive!

My wife started teaching in a new school system this year after the elimination of her position in another school system where she taught for 20 years. Needless to say it was tough for her to make the transition. I always tried to find a bright spot in her day when she came home and unloaded about the challenges she faced each day.nnI have had some challenges recently with my job too. And now she is the one encouraging me. When we’re both focused on serving God first, this is what follows. I would be nothing without her.

I have a friend who has been fighting breast cancer these past few months. She is the most incredible positive lady I know. I told her once that we could be stuck on a cliff with a rabid bear in front of us and hungry alligators below and without a doubt I could count on her to comment on how lovely the was the view. She is an inspiration.nnMy blessings? There are far too many. But most recent would be my husband finally finding salvation even in the midst of horror (he is currently deployed to Afghanistan). For nearly four years I have prayed, hoped, waited. God was so good to show me glimpses of the work he was doing, but still when it finally happened it was so very unexpected and just, well, amazing. Another blessing? My organ donor. I do not know who they were and what they gave me was not the difference between life or death. But in August I messed my knee up pretty bad playing football. My normal life, and football days, were over. Because of an organ donor, I got a new ACL. It is a minor thing I know, but when my knee was messed up all I could think about was my three little kids and no longer being able to run around with them or teach them sports. The new ACL and the advances in medical care that made the repairs possible gives me a chance to run and be active again. Like I said to some of my friends, being an organ donor is not always saving a life, it can also be allowing a person to really LIVE.

I got back from an amazing mission trip last week and I have been so encouraged to see the transformation God has been doing in some of my students’ lives. It gets me so pumped up to give those extra hours in ministry and come up with creative ways for students to encounter God. Like you mentioned above, it is truly life-giving. It humbles me and makes me feel so blessed that God would use me to reach others.
