Mentoring.
It is a beautiful thing when you can find a someone to mentor you along the way in whatever you and/or your spouse do. One of mine and Jasmine’s goals is to have an older couple that has a great marriage mentor us throughout our entire marriage if possible. I believe that a good thing can only become better with wise counsel.
What people don’t usually realize is that it takes humility, a want to grow and openness. It also allows for good communication and an outside perspective. We would recommend it to everyone, because let’s face it, marriage isn’t always rainbows and unicorns.
Admitting that you need mentoring isn’t a sign of weakness.
It took doing marriage for awhile to realize that we wanted this. We needed it. If people have a great marriage and have been doing it longer than you have, then they probably have some decent advice to share.
Do you have mentors? What is something that you have learned through mentoring?
That is an interesting idea… Have you had that mentoring experience to date? I’ve been around formal mentoring relationships through work – actually set-up and ran a mentoring program for 5 years for an organization where the staff felt neglected by senior management, so I think it’s a must-have program in the office, but taking that to your personal relatinship is so refreshing and unique. Would love to read more about this…
Great post.

I have mentored others along the way, but we’ve sought out mentoring for ourselves along the way. That’s awesome that you set up a program like that before for the office. I would love to hear how you did that exactly…
My wife and I wouldn’t have the incredible relationship we have now had it not been for counseling and mentoring… and the motivation of some really crappy first marriages.
That’s so awesome man!
