We’ve talked on here about the books we are reading, but it’s been a while.
Something we’ve never talked about on this blog is HOW we read. It’s definitely an important topic that can increase productivity, knowledge and can give that knowledge very quickly. This is because we don’t have to sift through other content that we don’t necessarily want to take in. We buy a book for the information that we want and can dive right in. Oh, and if you can speed read I really want to learn. That just sounds awesome.
You can either read one book at a time or two or more at a time. You can read a book’s pages or you can read it on a kindle or iPad. So many choices…
I’m one of those folks that has to be reading something to feel like I’m growing. And yes, I read a book with crisp pages. I haven’t been able to make the switch to books on iPad. I’m sure I will at some point.
The other thing is that I can’t just read one book at a time. It has to be two or more. I don’t really know why. All I can figure is that I get bored or people just need to write better books.
Anyways, I’m reading four books right now and here’s what they are:
First, Break All The Rules: What the World’s Greatest Managers Do Differently
How To Win Friends and Influence People
Execution: The Discipline of Getting Things Done
What Got You Here Won’t Get You There: How Successful People Become Even More Successful
So, two things…
Tell us what you’re reading right now and tell us how you read.

Just finished The Reluctant Fundamentalist. Really thought-provoking story in a quick, easy read.
Lately I’ve been learning to ask more questions while reading, and my reading into a dialogue with the text.

Right now I’m reading “Linchpin” by Seth Godin and a review copy of a book on blogging by @BryanAllain:twitter. I really like paper books, but have made the change to mostly ebooks on the iPad. I get to read more that way.

It was incredible. Seth did an interview w/ Michael Hyatt and said that it was his best book.

I’m the same way…I’ve got to have multiple books going at the same time.
Right now, I’m working through the first Harry Potter (Sorcerer’s Stone) by J.K. Rowling, The Modern Researcher by Barzun & Graff, Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen, and The Portable MFA in Creative Writing by The NY Writers Workshop.

I’m a lot like you – I would rather read a real book than read an e-book. I have read some books on my iPad, as Kindle offers all the classics for free and it saves me a ton of money, but most the time, I need a read book in my hands.
Right now, I’m reading:
Permission to Speak Freely by Anne Jackson
Sun Stand Still by Steven Furtick
Quitter by Jon Acuff
Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis
Some I’m partway through and put down to read something else. I can’t read just one book at a time. =D
jackalopekid says
How did you like Quitter? I keep meaning to pick that up?
Jason Vana says
I’d say it’s a must-read for anyone with a dream they want to pursue. It’s funny, offers practical advice and is encouraging – much better than those fluff follow your dreams books that really don’t amount to anything.

I am like you…I have to read an actual book. I like to smell the pages of a new book. It’s just part of the experience for me. If I’m reading a non-fiction book I typically have a highlighter with me because I always highlight anything that leaves an impression on me. My friends always pick on and say I have to buy a new highlighter because I’m starting a new book. Right now I am reading the first Harry Potter book (I’m probably the last person on the planet who hasn’t read the series) and today I picked up the new Ted Dekker book “Forbidden” so I’ll be reading that next. I typically on read one book – on rare occasion I’ll read two but only if one is fiction and one is non-fiction or if both are non-fiction and are not on similar topics.

I just got a Kindle, so I’ve been primarily reading on that. However, I do love reading physical books.
As for what I’m reading, a few things:
1. Steve Jobs bio
2. Die Young by Haley and Michael DiMarco
3. Buying In by Rob Walker
jackalopekid says
I really want to read Steve Jobs’ bio. I’ll have to check out those other ones 🙂
