Why Networking Is Important

As a business owner, I feel like half of my job is the actual work I do on a daily basis, and the other half of it is networking. This is great because I love building relationships, and networking is just the push I need to move outside the circle of people that I usually spend time with. Networking is important, because people are important. It’s that simple.

Sometimes people can look at networking as a dirty word, because it seems like forced relationship, but networking is really just a means of getting people to talk to others who they would not usually converse with. Not only is it important for business owners to get out into their communities and build relationships, but it’s important for anyone and everyone to do, because it connects people to people. And as more people get connected to other people, the less people there will be who feel alone.

The more people I meet and the more I network, the more I learn about the common ground that each and every one of us share. It really is a beautiful thing to see how people’s stories weave together with so many similarities. But, you will never realize this unless you reach out to others.

Fear will tell you that you shouldn’t do this, because you won’t have anything in common with other people. What will you talk about? What will other people think of you? Will you say the right thing? But the more you reach out and talk to others, the more similarities you will be able to see in each other. All you have to do is take the first step.

Fear likes to lie. It will even keep you isolated if you allow it to, and if you do, it will keep you from living a life of relationship. But the good news is that you can fight this lie with networking, and when you do, you will then be able to pour into the lives of those who have been waiting to do the same.
