The two different mindsets that people have are either a growth mindset or a complacent mindset. I call it a “complacent mindset” instead of a “loss mindset” because the two are one and the same. To grow as an individual, you must consume more information through your preferred learning method. And to grow as a business, you must promise and then over-deliver.
The differences of growth for individuals and companies aren’t really that much different. To grow as an individual you are obtaining more for yourself, and as a business, you are offering others more for them to grow as a result. But, please understand that you cannot offer other people more until you have first taken care of yourself. Healthy people can impact other people, and healthy employees can impact customers through their work. When one takes care of others without taking care of themselves, obtaining life balance is impossible.
You may have read this post and are now thinking to yourself that I have contradicted myself, in that I have recently told you that at some point you must stop growing yourself through consuming more information and begin taking action. But, what I am communicating here is a balance between these two actions. Yes, you need to consume great advice and surround yourself with people who are better than you to learn from them, but at some point you will need to take action, and that’s pretty difficult to do without your full attention.

Years ago (before you were even a twinkle in your parent’s eye) I was suffering from a terrible anxiety problem. It caused me to stop doing…everything. I even quit leaving my house (agoraphobia). I was getting counseling but it wasn’t helping. I starting reading…everything I could get my hands on, about anxiety and how to overcome it. One little paperback book from the library really caught my attention. Written by an expert from Australia, I still remember a line from this book. I typed it out and carried it with me as I started to venture out again. It said, “Your salvation is in the doing.” I could read books for years if I wanted to, but in order to overcome my problem, I had to take action. It was only by pushing against my resistance that I was able to overcome a crippling problem.

Wow, Linda. That is a very powerful line. I need to put that up on a wall in my office somewhere.
