You can tell what kind of atmosphere there is in a room as soon as you walk in. You probably know what I’m talking about. If you feel negativity at work, school or church, you don’t want to go and be around that atmosphere.
When you aren’t focused on the benefit of others, all that is left is you. A bad atmosphere is created when one person thinks of themselves instead of those around them. There are a few things that can happen when this takes place.
First, you can lose sight of what really matters… Caring for those around you. Temporary joy can be found in areas that reside in selfishness. True joy doesn’t come until we find something further than just ourselves to believe in. Seek out the needs of others and serve others.
Selfishness can creep in, before you realize what is going on. When you care only about yourself, this aspect is bound to happen eventually. It can only hurt you and self destruction is soon to follow. In this world and all that is out there, selfishness is easy to happen if you let it. Put safe guards up in your life to keep this from taking place.
You can become a negative person who brings down those around you. Since caring about yourself can only bring temporary joy, you are likely to become very negative. Negativity sucks the joy out of you and the ones around you, which can never be a good thing. That is unless you enjoy negativity.
These things can and will suck the life right out of you if you aren’t careful. So, what can you do to change things up?
Find a way to lift someone around you up today.
That’s how. Try it.
Smile, lift others up around you, create relationships that go past the surface and repeat. When you speak and do positive things, it changes that bad atmosphere that you’ve been dreading. Stand out in a positive way today.

“You can tell what kind of atmosphere there is in a room as soon as you walk in.” So true!
It’s quite easy to be sucked in by negative people (or atmosphere), my father likes to call these people: Vampires. They’ll suck you dry (of positivity) in no time!
But the good news is: it only happens if you allow it.
When you’re conscious of the negativity around you, fight it back… positivity will always win, as long as you allow it.
Great post Adam, thanks!

Wow the first thing that springs to my mind is HUMILITY. Philippians 2:5-7 ‘Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of man’. If Jesus can do it, then so can I. God bless you for this post. http://www.daghewardmills.org
