I’ll tell you when. It’s when people became more concerned with power than relationship. What people don’t understand is that power is a short-term fix for long-term issues. If you control situations with power in the workplace, people will eventually leave. There becomes no other option, because once people taste the freedom found in relationship and compromise, there’s no going back.
Compromise is what binds people together. Compromise is sharing and conciliatory, it is loving and kind and unselfish.” – Ali Harris, Author of The First Last Kiss
“Compromise, if not the spice of life, is its solidity. It is what makes nations great…” – Phyllis McGinley, American Author
Without compromise, nothing happens. However, with compromise, progress is at least made. And with progress, people can begin working towards a brighter future, and that is something everyone should get behind.
Yes, compromise would mean that you would have to budge a smidgen on your stance. And yes, it would mean that you would have to hand over some power to another person.
Of course, there are some areas of life that people shouldn’t compromise on, but what most people miss out on is the fact that compromise leads to a form of agreement in most instances. It can bring people from completely different ends of the spectrum to the middle of the road, allowing them to reach peace. It also opens doors that otherwise would be closed, and creates discussion.
When compromise isn’t an option and the only option is control over the situation from one person, bridges are burned, not built. Know that compromise isn’t losing, but rather it is mutually sharing power to come to a better solution. Otherwise, there is no solution, and an opportunity for peace is wasted.
