In an interesting twist, apparently to keep its investors happy and to extend its reach beyond its nearly 300 million active monthly users, it appears that Twitter is expanding beyond itself.
This is actually only one of its new features, which they plan to roll out over the next few months. In addition to this product, they are also planning to roll out an improved video feature, a group messaging feature, and an instant timeline feature, aimed at helping new users get acclimated to the network.
What does this new Twitter ad feature mean for social media marketers? In the short term, it means that you’ll be able to capitalize on your Twitter following, if that’s where you are strongest, and leverage it across multiple platforms.
Possible scenario: Imagine being able to target people in your wheelhouse while they read industry news in the Wall Street Journal. There is your ad, asking you to tweet @you with your thoughts on the piece. This could definitely create a boon to your engagement, as well as increasing your following to people who otherwise wouldn’t find you just on Twitter.
It’ll be interesting to see what marketers are able to do with this after some time to test. I’ll be sure to test on my own and report back in a few weeks.

I love hear about what Twitter is doing, since I spend the most time there. This being said, I want to see how people use this. Great post, Reade!
