Has Society Distorted Marriage and Relationships? - ASmithBlog.com by Jackie Bledsoe, Jr.

According to reports, marriages today are struggling. Divorces “succeed” at the same rate of marriages. Even more couples are choosing to just not get married at all.

In movies and TV shows, adultery is glorified, not vilified. There are even movies about having relationships with computers!

It seems our society is very confused when it comes to relationships and marriage. Why is this?

Why is it so hard to make relationships work?

Why are marriages failing at such a high rate?

Your vision for marriage and relationships

Below is a really thought-provoking video, which shares how society has distorted marriage, and we may have all bought in.

Fortunately there is a much better vision for marriage. A vision which can help those of us who are married improve our marriage, and help those not yet married, prepare better for marriage in the future.

What are your thoughts on how society has shaped our view of marriage and relationships?

  1. Great video, Jackie. I definitely think society has played a role, because all we see now are bad marriages and that has now become “normal.” People have been desensitized to the good things that marriage offers. It is our job to go against the norm and make a better effort than just settling for “normal”.

  2. Great video.

Healthy marriages need to be elevated. We need more spouses bragging about each other. We need more spouses holding hands in public. We need more families focused on pleasing God over pleasing their neighbors. This is a great post Jackie. It’s a great question. I believe society is influencing a worldly view of marriage. The next question is, how do we change this?
