Schedule Everything

Jim Collin’s formula in the book “Good to Great” is, “Sleep + Focus = Creativity”. That shows just how important sleep is. He even schedules it in. Scheduling everything in your day prevents wasted time in between and actually gives you more time throughout your day. Of course, it also gives structure to your busy life. The trouble I’m having is taking the time to actually schedule everything.

What do you use to make sure you keep to your schedule?

I work in a cubicle and Outlook is my life. That being said a lot of folks don’t realize the time SAVINGS they can gain by taking the time to schedule things.

Someone else smart once said that a task will fill whatever time you allocate to it. If I don’t schedule time to respond to emails, it could take hours. If I give myself 30 minutes, BOOM, it gets done.

I like this. I recently read an article on The 99 Percent that addressed GCTD — getting creative things done. Suggested we even schedule “creative blocks of time” on our calendar, and treat them like legit meetings. Don’t do other tasks, don’t allow interruptions, etc. Brilliant. I hope my boss likes the idea. 😉

Hmmm…I’m notorious for scheduling tasks and creating structure for my day (I like organizing!), but when it comes to it, I change plans and do something else.  Everything DOES get done on time, just not in the order I originally scheduled it.  Is that good or bad?!

I’ll have to check out that Calvetica app, too!
