Pushing Through The Feelings

There are times throughout each day that commitments take top priority over all the other things that I would rather be doing and I know that I am not the only one who feels this. Pushing through your feelings and getting things done are the necessary action steps to take in these cases. So, here are a few tips to get you going in the right direction when you feel that you don’t know the first step to take or you just don’t feel like it:

1. Don’t let your emotions dictate your actions. Negative emotions or feelings are a good indicator of where your thoughts have been recently. Good in usually means that good will be produced. Staying positive really can help you get through things. Emotions will lead you to do those unimportant “fun” things. A great example of this is the internet for people who work on computers. Your emotions will take you to short term happiness such as shopping, youtube or other random time-wasters instead of doing what you intended to in the first place. Stay focused!

2. Bite off more than you can chew, but not really. This sounds confusing, but hear me out. If you make promises or appointments, then keep them. But, know what you can handle in this season of life. Schedule the big things out and then fully commit.

3. Put yourself in commitments that you enjoy. I’m talking about what to do when you have to push through negative emotions, but what if you could lessen those emotions? That would be awesome. So, it is common sense that the less times you put yourself and those around you in negative situations, then the fewer times that you will have to deal with those emotions and you will have more time and mental capacity for positive emotions. And that is where you want to be… Do what you love!

4. Be aware of when you need rest. This part can almost be as important as the action items. Enough rest allows you to setup for success and then also recuperate from your hard work. You should even schedule your rest times to know that you will get this much need relaxation.

What is something that you have to push through the feelings in order to accomplish? You can leave a comment below.

Adam, thank you for sharing this post. I find it very applicable for me right now as I have been without work for 12 months. There are times where I have to push through and make myself do things just to maintain sanity in this season of my life. I’m praying for the day I find work and can look back on this time as a period of growth.
