The people that are around you can be a huge influence in your life. You can even take on characteristics of other people around you if you are around them enough. Because of this influence, it definitely makes sense to be selective with who you let in.
So, as you are deciding who you want to allow to pour into your life, the question you should ask yourself is…
“Who do I want to become?”
If you want to be a counselor, learn from other counselors.
If you want to be a teacher, learn from other teachers.
If you want to be a musician, learn from other musicians.
If you want to be a pastor, learn from other pastors.
If you want to be a business owner, then learn from other business owners.
If you need to have more patience in your life, learn from the most patient people that you know.
If you need help with getting to the gym, hang out with the most fit people you know.
If you need more discipline in your life, then find time to meet with the most disciplined people that you know.
Whatever you decide on, this principle applies.
The next step would be to find those people that you look up to.
Don’t be afraid to ask others who are further along in life to meet with you and allow them to be an inspiration to you. They will be honored that you are asking for them to share how they got to be where they are. Whether you are the one being asked or the one asking for direction, mentoring others is beneficial and rewarding for everyone involved.
How are you intentional with relationships? You can leave a comment below.
Limit my time with certain people, and move my schedule around when certain people I want to learn from have time come available.
I have to also add, the internet and social media makes it easier than ever to begin building relationships and bridging connections with influencers in your specific interests. Comment and add to the conversation, you’ll be surprised on what relationships may start to form.
Good advice, Brad. and yes social media is great for that reason.

What do I do if I live with the most negative person on this earth, someone that wants you to be unhappy, because they are not happy, how do I not let their day to day behaviors have effect on me?
And thank you for this beautiful blog
I think at that point the choosing of who we hang around becomes our choice. I don’t know what your situation is, but hopefully you can choose whether or not you have to hang around a person like that. And thank you for visiting my blog.
