The most common uncontrollable things that too much time is spent dwelling on are what other people think, say, or do, and a person’s past. When you take a step back and look at your life, how much time would you say that you spend focused on what you cannot control? Many times, the time spent thinking about the uncontrollable far outweighs the controllable.

And the only way to fight focusing on the wrong things is to recommit to focusing on what you control–the thoughts you have, the words you speak, and the actions you take now and in the future. Because until you take control over those things, you’ll remain adrift. When you learn to only focus on what you can control you will stop beating yourself up, you save time, and you put effort into the right things.
