Everyone should know what success means to them. It may sound like a difficult feat to identify a personal definition of success, but not if you use a success filter.

First, construct a one-sentence mission statement that gets to the heart of who you are as an individual. What were you put on this earth to do?

Second, you should write down your top goals for 2016. Make sure to include goals for the 5 main areas of life: business, family, health, financial, and fun.

Then, try using the filter where your skill set intersects with passion, followed by asking yourself the question, “What do people need from me?” It looks something like this:

success skills passion

Success is found in the space where skills, passion, and people's needs intersect. Share on X

Do any of your goals meet this criteria? If some do, then those are your top priorities. Of course, I won’t tell you that you should get rid of any goals that didn’t meet the requirement, but that’s up to you once you put your goals through this filter.

You’ll probably only be left with 5 goals, one for each area of life, but that’s a good thing. You can now put your time, effort, and energy into those things to be successful.

Now that you have your definition of success, the only thing left to do is to take action.
