Building social media skills requires a few good habits, and the most powerful of them all is to always be learning. This is because social media is always evolving into something new and different.
Why stay up to date?
Social media platforms have risen and fallen, and those that have withstood the test of time (and the changing tastes and preferences of the masses) are those that have applied one change after another.
This is why businesses, social media managers, and marketers in general have to constantly stay up-to-date. Gary Vaynerchuck said, “Marketers ruin everything,” and he actually has a point. Because just when you feel that you’ve settled in quite nicely, they go and change everything again, so the need for you to start catching up arises.
And what happens when you fail to catch up?
Those who went ahead and ran with the leaders the moment they detected the move will be so far ahead that you’ll find yourself wasting time, money, and other resources. A few weeks delay in updating your strategies could be disastrous, and a few months delay, fatal.
How do you stay up to date?
- Constant Training
Udemy offers online courses, and their social media marketing streams are among the most popular. HubSpot also has Inbound Marketing courses that you can take advantage of. A quick search online will reveal more training classes that you can take, as well.
- Constant Reading
There is so much material around, especially when it comes to topics like social media marketing and management. Grab a book and spend around 20 minutes a day going through it. As you absorb all this knowledge, you’ll also find yourself having a deeper understanding of how social media trends work, allowing you to anticipate and move with every change.
- Constant Competitor Research
You have to admit, it’s your competitor that triggers the change in trends sometimes. This is why you have to constantly watch out and observe their social media strategies. This way, you can get ahead of the game by using the strategies they apply against them. You’ll be able to block their every move and retain your spot ahead.
Remember that social media is a tool that can help you build your audience very quickly. And staying up-to-date is the only thing that ensures growth will happen.
