A positive outlook is necessary for a less stressful life. If you look at things through a filter of negativity, your life will seem less than ideal. But, the truth is, there will be a problem that arises at some point. And most problems don’t just go away, unless you face them head on. One true sign of a great leader is how they deal with problems.
Here are four ways to effectively deal with those annoying problems that come up and still have a positive outlook on life:
1. Realize that everyone faces a negative situation every once and a while.
In the past when I have dealt with negative situations, I have felt at some point like I was the only person in the world that has ever dealt with that particular issue. Whether you ever have felt this way or not, the problem that you have faced or will face has happened before. I can guarantee that. A good exercise to include during times like these is to seek counsel from others who may have been through a similar situation before. (Maybe a mentor?)
Know that you will get through this time. It will only last for a minute.
2. Confront the issue at hand.
Again, usually problems don’t just go away by themselves. You may have to take care of some important negative issues at some point in life. But, make sure you understand that these problems that are less than ideal are all controllable and fixable situations. Don’t let these types of problems control you. Take care of them and choose to remain positive throughout these issues.
Even if you personally don’t enjoy confrontation, know that you and your surroundings will be more positive when you begin to work at it.
3. Communicate effectively.
Make sure that the parties involved fully understand what needs to be done to fix things. If you know that you have done your part in every way possible, then it isn’t in your hands anymore. If you feel the need to step in every time to fix things, then it is probably a trust issue you have with those around you and that is a bigger issue than a negative situation.
If you are in a situation where you are able to prepare the points that you need to discuss, take the time to think about what you need to get across to those involved. Being prepared gives you more confidence in what you need to say.
4. Start moving in the right direction.
Once the issue is dealt with properly, then there is no reason to dwell there. It is time to move on. You have more important things to deal with than negativity. Immediately shift your outlook to positive situations and surround yourself with people that have a positive outlook.
Negativity doesn’t deserve your attention anyways, so discover what takes your thought life back to happiness and get back there as quickly as possible.
The problem with negativity is that we never want to dive into it unless we have to, but if you have to deal with it at some point in life, you might as well make it better and have a plan for it. Once you make a plan, you can then leave it be until the time comes. Then, you will be able to relax more knowing that you are prepared for whatever may come your way and can execute your plan when the time comes.
Relax in staying positive and never letting that go, even when negativity comes your way.

It’s funny that I just went through a great example which augments the communication bullet, and at the same time refutes it.
A my wife let in a traveling salesman while I was in the shower. He halfway let himself in, and she halfway let him in. I came out to find a happy salesman selling a $3,000 sweeper. I politely told him we weren’t interested. He proceeded to say he couldn’t leave, and he needed to wait for his boss.
I then said, “Bud, I’m sorry, but you can wait outside.”
He tried to stay inside.
“Bud, you can leave now or I’ll call the cops. What’s it gonna be?”
Once more he called his boss while I called the cops. He left a minute before they showed up.
This augments the clear communication on my part. I told him what would happen, he made the choice to stay n’ test me. I felt bad for him, but he had his chance.
This goes against the bullet point because Adam said if you need to get involved all the time… This was a one time deal (at least it better be).
If you’re always in the thick and it never seems to clear up, maybe it’s because you’re in the bruah and eveyone else is in the fairway. -If you don’t get the golf analogy, it means you’re probably the problem.

Yes, I hope that is a one time situation for you, Brad. That just sounds awful.

Practice, prepare, and present. Right on the money Adam! I love helping people with #2 and 3 because in theory it makes sense but in real life it can be tricky to navigate
