i really can’t wait to hear brian’s album. i’ve heard so many good things about it already.
a time grace has been given to me? sheesh… i don’t know where to start. although the problem is really not knowing where to stop!
just today… God’s grace was poured out through people loving on me — encouraging me — strengthening my heart — when i feel nothing but broken. empty. without anything to offer. it makes my breath catch in my throat and tears pool in my eyes, and i know, i just know, this is a small glimpse of the grace of God. undeserved, unmerited, unreturned… and unmatched.

I’m given grace every time i wake up and look at my wife. The way that woman has put up with my tendency to be selfish and self-focused is amazing. A true picture of what Grace looks like.

It was enough for God to show me mercy…then He showed me grace…I’m adopted into the family of The King…how cool is that?

Because of God’s grace, I have found it more than possible to show grace to the “difficult” people in my life. I see them as God sees them & I have less stress & more peace. No one is beyond His reach… even me.

My second year at Bible college, I applied to spend the summer on a traveling ministry team. I was a selfish, critical, bossy person and would have been a huge detriment to such a small team in such close quarters for an entire summer. The director of Ministry Teams had the good sense to not place me on a team, and the kindness to sit down and explain to me the reasons why I had not been chosen.
About a month later, that same Director emailed me and offered me a summer job working in his office, managing and booking one of the summer ministry teams. It would be the first time one of our teams had traveled through the fall, instead of finishing in August, and he wanted me to take care of their fall tour. Through this job, I discovered my gifting and passion for administrative work, and formed a lifelong friendship and professional relationship with a band that has now been touring for almost four years.
I also spent my remaining three years at Bible college working very closely with that Director, learning heaps both from a practical standpoint, and from a spiritual growth standpoint. I continue to be thankful for the grace that he showed me; many others would have (and have) given up on me from the get-go, but he gave me a chance to be better, instead of assuming I’d always stay the same.

One of the most meaningful times for me was at a worship retreat I attended this past May. I was feeling completely burnt out from music ministry, and I’ve only been doing it vocationally for 2 years at that point, and at this retreat I really felt God’s grace in an unbelievable way. I was able to have some real time to focus on Him and realize that the ministry He put me in was His and not mine to try and figure out. The power of His grace allowed me to truly focus on Him and it also allowed me to worship in a way that I hadn’t for a long time.

I am pastor so I get a lot of opportunities to share God’ grace. One of the most memorable for me was when I was on a plane flying to Peru on a mission trip. I began to talk to the lady beside me about why I was going to Peru. With her broken English and my VERY broken Spanish I shared the Gospel of Grace with her and she received Christ!

I have been the recipient of God’s grace on numerous occasions through numerous people or situations, but one that comes to mind is the time God graciously provided for my wife and I in a tough time. We were pretty tight on money and we were living on the envelope system. It was another few days before we were able to refill our grocery envelope and there wasn’t much around the house. After attending our church visitors lunch (where we as church staff gets to interact with visitors and new attenders), we were sent home with an abundance of fried chicken and rolls, salad, vegetables, etc… I think that was the last time I ever wondered where our provision would come from. God has been so good to my wife and me and we try our best to be conduits of grace to others as we are able.

I was given grace by my seminary when they allowed me to do my pastoral internship at my local church so that I could continue developing the media department. Normally they do not allow you to intern at your local church.
