What Are You Leaving Behind?

Using Focus to Improve Your Life (Part 3 of 3)

11.30

The last two weeks I have been leading you down a path. I hope that you have been following along, because today is where it all ties together and I will make a pitch on why all of these things are so important.

The key to all of this is that you are essentially creating a personal brand.

Wikipedia defines brand as “the name, term, design, symbol, or any other feature that identifies one seller’s product distinctly from those of other sellers.” Take out the business jargon and instead make it personal. All of us, every single one of us has a personal brand. When others conjure up their mental image of us in their minds they immediately have a gut reaction. A feeling that directly relates to their perception of us. Most people feel like they do not have much to say in how others perceive them, but I would disagree. We are always projecting a personal brand. People are gathering impressions of us during every moment time is spent together. But, most of us squander this opportunity.

What if I told you that everything that I have covered in the last two weeks is an incredible way to build your personal brand?

That by taking control of your life and choosing to learn specific things, doing those things, and eventually teaching those things to others, you are building a lasting impression with them. You are either negatively impacting the perception others have of you or you are making a positive impact. One thing you cannot do, is stay the same. So, which will it be? It is a relatively simple concept. Everything you choose to learn turns into you doing things and teaching others about it. Public speaking makes a huge impact on your personal brand. Learning and employing new leadership skills makes a huge impact on your brand. Learning to write makes an enormous impact on how others perceive you! These things completely change the game.

The difference is made when you decide to take hold of this knowledge and utilize it. If you focus on narrowing down what you want to learn, do, or teach, you can then change your life. Most of us are just content with sitting around and letting things happen. Not changing the flow. Accepting things as they are. That is exactly how you become insignificant. It is the perfect formula for leaving this earth without building a legacy that will impact lives for generations to come. We all have the potential inside us to make a difference in the lives of others. It could be as few as one other person or it could be millions. For me, if I can positively impact or change the life of even one more person before I am done, then all of this hard work is worth the effort.

Create your personal brand. Focus on what it is you want to leave behind to impact others and let that guide you in deciding what you learn, what you do, what you teach, and what you become. You make this happen. Here and now. Not later. Not in 2 months, 6 months, or a year.

It starts now.

What are you leaving behind?

The Right Way to Use Infographics for Your Business’ Blog

infographics

Infographics are one of the most effective solutions for delivering your business’ message. When used properly on a business blog, they provide readers with an immersive and visually appealing form to digest information. Certain types of information, especially statistics and data, read blandly amongst big blocks of text. Infographics encourage readers to become engaged in the information, propelled by visual representations that help solidify your message. When used correctly, infographics on your business’ blog can be resoundingly effective. Here are some infographics tips to consider:

Utilize relevant statistics

First ask yourself: what services does my business provide? Secondly, what aspect of society causes my business’ services to be a desirable commodity? Reinforcing why others need your business’ service can be accomplished through relevant data. For instance, if you run a home insurance company, you can highlight how the number of burglaries is increasing in a specific area. Any information on infographics that reinforce your business’ necessity will help convert visitors to clients. Here’s an example from an alcohol rehab facility. Notice how their facts and figures are relevant to their practice?

Choose color schemes that blend well with your blog’s theme

Although information in an infographic is the most essential aspect of them, the color scheme is also important. If infographics stick out like a sore thumb, visitors to your business’ blog will be more encouraged to leave than to engage in the content. If possible, choose infographics whose colors are similar or cohesively matched to your blog’s theme or layout.  If you noticed in the example above, that blog used similar colors and the infographic looks like it fits.

Organize information creatively

No one wants a Powerpoint presentation when they read infographics. To avoid your readers becoming bored, be sure to diversify how information is presented in infographics. Include artistic embellishments that are relevant to your business’ niche, with occasional touches of humor if the topic isn’t too sensitive. Get your message across, but also try to sound personable – both in the content of the information and how creatively it’s presented.

Churn out infographics on a consistent basis

Many sites have received significant viral attention from effective infographics, which are shared in the thousands on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. If readers come to expect quality infographics on a weekly or monthly basis, they will feel more encouraged to tell others about it – usually through social media. In today’s digital age, there are few more proven methods of driving readers to your web site than going viral on social media. Here’s another example from a marketing company that relates to their clients. If you go back and look through their blog, they don’t have an overkill of infographics and the ones they do have, are all relatable.

Place them alongside your contact information

The point of infographics on your business’ blog is to highlight how your particular service should be a desirable necessity. If implemented successfully, many readers will feel inclined to inquire about your services. Placing contact information – like your business’ phone, e-mail or a contact form – will make it easier for potential clients to contact you. Infographics can be great resources for finding new clients and leads.

Do not bloat your web site with infographics

Infographics are a wonderful way to drive potential clients to your business and spice up a blog, but don’t go overboard with them. Use them sparingly yet effectively; one per page is usually all that’s needed to make a point. Quality over quantity matters most when it comes to infographics, which can increase your business’ number of clients significantly if effectively implemented.

4 Tips For A Drama Free Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving!

Whether you are hostessing or just showing up to eat, before you dive into the food or conversation, I wanted to give a few communication tips to help your day go smoother. I will keep it short so you can get going!

4 Ways to Have A Drama Free Thanksgiving

1. Resist one up-ping.

If someone is bragging about their kids, home, job, etc., let them. Resist trying to jump in the mix with your own story of how fabulous you are. If you are fabulous, you don’t have to brag about it. Enjoy the story or go get some more pie. Just don’t give in.

2. Pray for the people you dislike.

Whether it is a strong dislike or just a mild irritation, pray for that face you are imagining right now as you read this. I don’t mean pray that God will rain fire from heaven to wipe them out. No. Instead, get quiet, and ask God how you can genuinely pray. If you dislike them, you probably only see their flaws. But they have good qualities as well, I am sure of it. Thank God, out loud, for their strengths and pray for their weaknesses. It is difficult to stay angry when you pray for them.

3. Give thanks with words.

Having a thankful heart is great. Speaking or sharing your thankful heart is even better. Do the people in your life know how grateful you are for them? How would they if you don’t tell them. Give the people in your life thanks. It is so simple we forget to say it. They need to hear it just as much as you need to say it.

4. Schedule your conflict.

We all have seen the family gatherings where a fight breaks out. Poor Aunt Sophie spent all that time preparing to host and you and your brother go at it in front of everyone?!?! No! This may seem the weirdest tip, but it might the most important. Schedule your conflict. Set a time either mentally or put it on the calender for when you will confront that person. Having it scheduled will help release the pent up frustration of wondering when that awkward conversation is going to happen. It also gives you time to prepare. Holidays are full of elevated emotion. Keep your peace by scheduling your conflict.

Which one of these tips are you going to use to have a drama free holiday?
