coming back to priorities

I haven’t been online as much lately. This decision has been decided by the order of my priorities and my online presence just doesn’t seem to fit in the top five spots lately. I’m trying to fit it in because honestly I really love doing it, but I keep coming back to priorities and the fact that I love life without the computer on at all times. Also, I’m a huge believer in not stealing time from your family. This means not taking time from them in the middle of the day. With our new schedule even waking up early doesn’t provide that anymore. It seems that sleep is the thing on everyone’s mind these days.

I’m able to keep up with about half the pace that I used to, and here’s why:

In the past few years I’ve gone from having my priorities totally out of whack to having my priorities in a place where I honestly feel good with where they’re at.

I think it was a mixture of Colorado, having Colbie, making sure that we are intentional with being around people that are great examples more often and putting more time into making our marriage better.  Throughout this whole process I’ve been as close to this contract as I could be. I’m striving for longevity because that’s where I feel that people are really successful. I think that this comes from a love for what you do at a pace that you can handle. And this is the point I am continually striving to find.

So yeah, this is what I’ve been up to. And because of these things we probably haven’t talked in a while…

So, what have you been up to?

We’ve talked on here about the books we are reading, but it’s been a while.

Something we’ve never talked about on this blog is HOW we read. It’s definitely an important topic that can increase productivity, knowledge and can give that knowledge very quickly. This is because we don’t have to sift through other content that we don’t necessarily want to take in. We buy a book for the information that we want and can dive right in. Oh, and if you can speed read I really want to learn. That just sounds awesome.

You can either read one book at a time or two or more at a time. You can read a book’s pages or you can read it on a kindle or iPad. So many choices…

I’m one of those folks that has to be reading something to feel like I’m growing. And yes, I read a book with crisp pages. I haven’t been able to make the switch to books on iPad. I’m sure I will at some point.

The other thing is that I can’t just read one book at a time. It has to be two or more. I don’t really know why. All I can figure is that I get bored or people just need to write better books.

Anyways, I’m reading four books right now and here’s what they are:

First, Break All The Rules: What the World’s Greatest Managers Do Differently

How To Win Friends and Influence People

Execution: The Discipline of Getting Things Done

What Got You Here Won’t Get You There: How Successful People Become Even More Successful

So, two things…

Tell us what you’re reading right now and tell us how you read.

I think we may be going through the longest series in the history of church. We are going through the book of Luke verse by verse and then going on to Acts. Last Sunday our pastor informed us that it will take six years to go through the entire thing. Wow.

What’s the most memorable sermon/series that you’ve ever heard in church?
